My Fitness and weight loss Journey!

My Weight Loss Journey: From Binge Eating to Sustainable Fitness – it is work in progress

How I transformed my relationship with food and fitness without starving myself

Where I Started: 85kg and Struggling for years

At 85kg, I was overweight for my small frame. But the real problem wasn’t the number—it was how I got there:

  • Daily /weekly binge eating to cope with stress
  • Regular weekly binge drinking
  • Zero gym motivation—completely stopped working out
  • Anxiety and depression controlling my life

As a gay man, the pressure to look perfect made everything worse.

Weight loss transformation

The Mental Health Reality

Truth bomb: You can’t out-train poor mental health.

My binge eating wasn’t about willpower—it was emotional coping. I needed to get to root of it.

My Sustainable Approach

After failed crash diets, I found what actually works:

The Numbers That Matter- my current status

  • Lost 8kg gradually (no rush, no starvation)
  • 6 days per week at the gym
  • 10,000 steps daily
  • Eating healthy food because slow weight loss = no deprivation
  • Making wellbeing and mental health a priorty

Game-Changing Mindset Shifts

Before: “I need to lose X pounds by X date” Now: “I’ll hit the gym 6 days this week and walk daily”

Behavior goals > Scale goals

Why? I control my actions, not the scale’s daily fluctuations.

What Makes This Different

Mental health first approach

Sustainable pace (no starvation)

Realistic expectations (bad days happen)

Holistic wellbeing (not just gym and diet)

Self-compassion over perfection

Where I Am Now

8kg lighter, stronger mentally. I have energy, confidence, and genuine happiness with my progress.

Best part? This feels sustainable. No white-knuckling restrictive diets or punishing workouts.

Takeaways

If you’re struggling with binge eating or fitness motivation:

  1. Address mental health
  2. Choose slow, sustainable over quick fixes. If you are in the long run
  3. Set behavior goals (gym/walk 4x/week vs. “lose 10kg”)
  4. Find a movement or activity you enjoy (e.g. gardening)
  5. Be patient and kind to yourself

Remember: You don’t need to be perfect to start. Just consistent.

Your transformation is possible—and you deserve to feel strong and happy in your body.
